A YEAR IN FILM, A NEW PODCAST FROM HOLLYWOOD SUITE EXPLORES HOW FILMS INFLUENCE TRENDS AND MILESTONES THROUGH THE DECADES

Hollywood Suite is celebrating International Podcast Day by announcing their first-ever foray into podcasting, A Year in Film: Podcast. The bi-monthly podcast offers lively, informative debate and insights into some of the most game-changing films and movie moments in history. Premiering October 1, 50-minute episodes will be released on the first and 15th of each month on various podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play and Stitcher.
Host Becky Shrimpton, and Hollywood Suite film experts Alicia Fletcher and Cameron Maitland invite viewers to unwind and rewind as they make like Marty McFly and turn back time to revisit a different era of film, tracking the top trends and forgotten milestones that defined each year and continue to influence us to this very day.
Produced by Ryan Mains, the 12-episode first season of A Year in Film: Podcast will feature the four years highlighted in Season 1 of the Hollywood Suite original tv series A Year in Film (1978, 1983, 1992 and 2007), highlighting films and subgenres that didn’t make the final cut for broadcast.

In our podcast, listeners will get layers of expert opinion, cultural commentary, and a lot of humour when our triad of film gurus unpack the blockbusters, hidden gems, cult classics and sleeper hits.”
The premiere episode on October 1, “Disco and Truckers Rule” dissects the year 1978 and dives into the films The Eyes of Laura Mars, The Wiz, Convoy and Every Which Way but Loose.

HOST BIOS
ALICIA FLETCHER
A member of the Visual Researcher’s Society of Canada, Alicia Fletcher is Hollywood Suite’s Archival Producer. She writes, researches, and appears as a series regular in Hollywood Suite’s original docuseries A Year in Film.
A curator, film historian and educator dedicated to preserving the memory of films and their related ephemera, she has taught in Ryerson University’s Film Preservation and Collections Management graduate program and her film curation is featured at TIFF Cinematheque, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Royal Cinema. For the past nine years, Alicia has curated Silent Revue held at the historic Revue Cinema, Canada’s only year-round showcase dedicated to silent cinema and Toronto’s longest-running repertory series.
CAMERON MAITLAND
Cam Maitland is Hollywood Suite’s Film and Content Expert, a writer and filmmaker. Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Maitland received his filmmaking degree from Simon Fraser University, and his short films have been shown at festivals across North America.
At Hollywood Suite he’s worked writing projects like A Year in Film and hosting International red carpets at the BAFTA and Spirit Awards and live film events. He appears regularly on Sirius XM’s The Breakdown, The Royal Canadian Movie Podcast and other venues to talk movies and pop-culture.
BECKY SHRIMPTON
Becky Shrimpton is a voiceover actress and podcaster of average height and blood pressure. Her credits include roles in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series as well as Byju’s Early Learn featuring Disney series. She’s also in countless commercials and has one of those, “Haven’t I heard you in something?” voices.
Since 2016, Becky has been a professional podcaster and a pop-culture commentator on The Royal Canadian Movie Podcast, where she interviews all sorts of Canadian film industry experts. She’s also the co-host and co-writer of the Canadian Podcast Award winning AI Meets World from Microsoft and the Globe and Mail’s Globe Content Studio. It explores how AI technology is changing the world around us and using sci-fi movies and TV to explain complex topics.
Becky loves movies. She loves the stories behind movies. She loves talking about movies with other people who love movies. A Year in Film: Podcast is a natural fit to share those loves with listeners.
