Six Movies to Watch on Remembrance Day

Hollywood Suite marks Remembrance Day all month with films that highlight the sacrifices and tragedy of war. Here are six films, from classics to recent releases, to help commemorate this important day.

Resistance leader Luigi Ferrari is pursued by Major Fritz Bergmann, a German intelligence officer who wants the name of others in the underground movement. Ferrari enlists the help of sympathetic priest Don Pietro Pellegrini to pass on funds to the fighters in case he is captured, but is accidentally betrayed by a former lover.

Imprisoned during World War II in a German POW camp, a group of Allied soldiers are intent on breaking out, not only to escape, but also to draw Nazi forces away from battle to search for fugitives. Among the prisoners determined to escape are American Captain Virgil Hilts (Steve McQueen) and British Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett (Richard Attenborough). Outwitting their captors by digging a tunnel out of the prison grounds, the soldiers find the stakes much higher when escape becomes a reality.

Milo Minderbinder (Jon Voight), Yossarian must resort to extreme measures to escape his dire and increasingly absurd situation.

Lacking survival skills and unfamiliar with the harsh terrain in Vietnam, Hambleton is forced to fight for his life as he witnesses the shocking horrors of war.

Based on the true life story of Cpl. Megan Leavey, a young Marine who starts to identify with Rex, a particularly aggressive combat dog that she trains. Together, they complete more than 100 missions until an improvised explosive device injures both, putting their fates in jeopardy.
