Toronto’s elite are thrown into panic when a member of the upper crust is brutally murdered; A killer, dubbed “the Widow” is on the loose. Detective Kenneth Rijkers is assigned to the case to help the victim’s wife Regina Simcoe find closure. Toronto’s most powerful man, Basil Garvey, works to control the investigation, as it appears he and seven others may be the targets.

The Widow strikes again, and intrepid newspaper editor Enid Jenkins is determined to capitalize on the murders. Kenneth and surgeon Dr. Melanda Israel discover the killer is left-handed, and Kenneth zones in on Basil Garvey’s muscle, Eddie Jacobs, angering Kenneth’s boss, Superintendent Kashtinsky. Regina looks to the spirit realm for answers of her own, turning to Georges to hold a seance.

Panic rises, with Kashtinsky getting high to keep focused, and Eddie trying to flee; but Basil reminds him that he owns him. Kenneth uncovers proof that links the victims to the killing of Margaret Mehar, fleshing out the Widow’s list of possible targets.

The Widow sends a nauseating treat to Basil and friends, which sends Kashtinsky over the edge, forcing Kenneth to assume control of the constabulary. Meanwhile, the evil Botticelli sisters seem to have a change of heart when it comes to Verdi and arrange for her to have their portraits taken, which turns into a boudoir photoshoot of Verdi to be used to sell her to the highest bidder. Georges Rondeau, the prime suspect in the murders, preys on Regina, Kenneth saves her in the nick of time and arrests Georges – only to discover that he’s caught the wrong person, when the Widow strikes anew.

On Valentine’s Day the Widow’s latest victim is found, dragged to death behind a horse and made up to look like Cupid. A torn piece of the Widow’s weeds sends Kenneth and Regina off on a hunt. After Salomé entertains bidders for Verdi, Terrence throws Salomé out and their argument turns deadly. Kenneth shows up to a murder scene while unbeknownst to him the Widow tortures a victim under his nose.

Israel admits to her involvement in Margaret’s murder, leading to the arrest of two other suspects. Regina’s Pastor is attacked, and she begs Kenneth to release the doctor to save him. Kenneth frees Israel, and heads to Basil’s mansion to connect him to Margaret. Meanwhile, the Widow visits while Israel operates. She strikes a deal with the Widow to spare her life, a transaction with a shocking end.

Basil arrives at the church for his wedding to Verdi and is surprised by an uninvited guest from beyond the grave.
